How to Get the Pottery Barn Look in Ottawa…Without Pottery Barn

I was reading an old post from the TBBs blog the other day that really piqued my interest. I saw something about Pottery Barn and Ottawa and I so excited…for a minute. I kept reading and realized they too were lamenting our lack of the PB line of furniture stores in Canada’s Capital. Not that I need another stick of furniture in my house now (anyone want to buy a few dining room chairs!) but I’d like the opportunity to just look at their merchandise without the trek to Toronto. Sure, we can order online but the window shopping is just so much better in person, am I right?

So with that in mind, I thought I’d see how close we can get to a Pottery Barn room in Ottawa without setting foot into an actual Pottery Barn store. (Dear PB, if you stumble across this, please feel free to survey Sue & I on whether a PB chain would be welcome in Ottawa!)

So here’s a bedroom that I adore. It’s all Pottery Barn, and it’s all so comfortable looking. Can’t you just see lounging in bed on a Sunday morning. No one leaves laundry out in this room. We read very intelligent literature. No toddlers leave trails of juice on the duvet. And dare I say no one needs to shovel the driveway when they live in this paradise. Okay, Pottery Barn can’t get rid of snow, laundry, Franklin the Turtle books and crumbs, but for a few brief moments, I can dream ;-)

But all is not lost! That’s right — there are options to recreate this room right in your hometown. Urban Barn provides a similar look and feel to PB. And they’re right in the Market. Luxe Ottawa carries a tonne of great pieces that can be custom-ordered. The Emporium has some beautiful pieces that will outlast the quality of PB and can be custom made as you like it. The Bay has some pretty nice lines that can create a cozy PB look. And Sue can order custom items through her interior decorating business if there’s an item you just have to have.

I went a hunting to see if we could get most of these bedroom pieces by shopping the Capital – and here’s what I came up with to recreate this bedroom above.

How did I do? The headboard shown in my mood board is grey, but comes in the sand colour shown in the inspiration image; unfortunately I don’t have an image of it in that colour so you have to use a bit of imagination with that one piece please!

What do you think? Would you be there on opening day if Pottery Barn came to Ottawa? Or do you think with a little shopping savvy we can do just fine with the stylish stores we have at our current disposal?
